Brothers and sisters:
I need to share some difficult news with you. Our dear brother, father in the Lord, and friend, Allan Coussell went home to be with the Lord last night.
Some of you know Allan contracted dengue fever in Sri Lanka on March 23 and spent five days in intensive care in the hospital. He returned to Tianjin last Saturday, April 1, and had been recuperating at home but took a turn for the worse yesterday, in what was diagnosed as “post dengue fever symptoms.” He went downhill quickly and we received the news of his passing this morning.
Please pray for Christine, family in New Zealand, students, friends in Tianjin and around the world, as well as TICF members as they receive this news. The Elders and Deacons of TICF are engaged now and will provide an update later today about how to provide help for Christine, plans for a memorial, and any further news.
I would appreciate, for now, that you please be reserved in contacting Christine directly, as Elders will be a focal point for disseminating news. In this way, Christine can be relieved from unnecessary repetition. I would recommend you feel free to send emails and texts as I know so many of us want to gather around Christine right now.
We cry out to God, at this moment, for His comfort for Christine, and all who knew Allan, this mighty man of love. Allan would echo the words to use his passing to turn us to God. May we be encouraged by Psalm 61:1-5
1 Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; 2 from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, 3 for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. 4 Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings! Selah 5 For you, O God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. (ESV)
Leaning on God,
(for TICF Elders)
