A note on feasting:
The Tithe was
literally a 10th of all produce and livestock which the people possessed
(Lev 27:30,32). The Tithe was to be given to Levites who in turn were
to give a tenth of their
tithe to the priests (Num 18:21-32). The Israelites were also to bring
a Tithe and eat it with the Levites before the Lord in Jerusalem as an
act of festal worship (Deut 12.5-18). If the individual was too far away
to bring a tenth of their produce with them, they were to sell it for
silver, take the silver to Jerusalem, and then buy produce for the Feast
near the Temple. They were not to partake of this portion wherever they
wanted: they had to come to Jerusalem to feast with the priests and Levites
in the presence of God (Deut 14.22-26).
